St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is proud to announce the Valedictorians and Salutatorians for the Class of 2019! Erik Williams has been named Valedictorian of SJB and David Amelemah has been named Salutatorian of SJB. Earlier this school year, beloved Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan High School closed, leaving many Seniors with the tough decision of where to complete their high school career. SJB is grateful and fortunate to have adopted many of the Bishop McGann-Mercy students. SJB’s Administration chose to honor the hard work these students put into their academics and also named Karina Ellis as Valedictorian of Bishop McGann-Mercy/SJB and Keeley McMullen-Smith as Salutatorian of Bishop McGann-Mercy/SJB.

With a weighted GPA of 104.98, Erik Williams, was not only awarded  $454,500 in scholarships, he was also selected as a winner of the National Merit Scholarship! Throughout his time at SJB, Erick has been a part of Varsity Lacrosse, Varsity Track, Student Council, National Honor Society, Volunteer YMCA, and completed research at Mather & Lenox Hill Hospitals. In the Fall, he will be attending Cornell, majoring in Neuroscience, with a minor in Computer Science. David Amelemah, has a weighted GPA of 104.38. Earlier this year, David was the first student in SJB history to win the 2018 Monsignor Peter’s Award for football. He is involved in National Honor Society, Varsity Track, Varsity Football, Retreat Leader, the National Grid Pipeline Program, a Good Samaritan Hospital Volunteer, and is a part of the Cornell University Catalyst Program. In the Fall, David will be attending Princeton University to study Biochemical Engineering, and will minor in  Computer Science. Karina Ellis, has a weighted GPA of 102.35, and has been awarded $1,055,900 in scholarships. She has been involved in Varsity Tennis, Math Honor Society, National Honor Society, the Maureen Haven Homeless Shelter Volunteer, and she is a Lector in her Parish. She will be attending Immaculata University to study Nutrition and Dietetics. Keeley McMullen-Smith, has a weighted GPA: 100.86 and has been awarded $160,000 in scholarships. Keeley is involved in National Honor Society and Horseback Riding. In the Fall she will attend Elmira College to major in Biology/Pre-Veterinary.

We are so proud of our Valedictorians and Salutatorians and wish them the best of luck next year and in their future endeavors, and we look forward to hearing about their successes as Alumni.
